It’s easy to use and you can switch the bars quickly. Just re-rack in the included base and go from curl bar to barbell in minutes.
Since you get a barbell and a curl bar, the exercise possibilities are endless. “SelecTech “is the perfect name for this system!
Think of the time you will save going from one weight to another. No more chasing down the “old round iron plates” to equal out your barbell, just dial up what you need.
Don’t get me wrong, iron plates have their place and I’ll probably keep mine around ----they’re just a part of me. Plus……when doing extreme heavy bench presses, you’re going need them.
If you are new to weight-lifting or just want to get that full body workout to maintain what you’ve already accomplished, it just doesn’t get any better than owning the Bowflex SelecTech 2080.
Bowflex SelecTech 2080 Barbell with Curl Bar is “Family Friendly”
The Bowflex SelecTech 2080 is so versatile and well built that the whole family can benefit from using it. The ladies will love how easy it is to change up the weights when they want to use the system!
Where Can I Set Up My Bowflex SelecTech 2080?
If you don’t have a home gym, you can set up the Bowflex SelecTech 2080 system in a corner of the living room or bedroom, do your workout and store it there. It's a big space saver for sure!
The bars are about 60” long, in the base while the overall measurements are 11.7” wide and 12.7” high.
Think about the space you are saving! How much room would it take to store 7 barbells, and 7 curl bars and the weights?
That’s not a problem with the SelecTech 2080. If in time you want to upgrade your unit to 120 lbs., you might need a couple more inches of space and that’s it!!!!
Think about this---you can change from 20lbs to 80 lbs. by just turning a dial and not lifting a single weight plate.
The plates have durable molding around them, so you don’t have that loud noise happening when changing increments.
(This system just keeps getting better, right?)
Can I Afford the SelecTech 2080?
So, you have probably checked out the price by now and maybe cringed a bit. If you consider how much an Olympic set of weights would cost, just the weights alone would be around $300 or so.
Then you’ll need to purchase the straight bar, curl bar, and caps to hold the weight on the bar. You’ll need a sturdy mat to do your lifting on that can withstand dropping the weights on. It’s adding up!
NEXT………….
Consider how much workout space you’re going to need with an Olympic set of weights!

Bowflex SelectTech 2080 Barbell Design and Construction
With the Bowflex brand on it, you obviously know the SelectTech 2080 device is a high-quality item. The weight plates and bars are composed of high-quality powder-coated steel, making them resistant to corrosion, dents, and scratches. Simply wipe it down or dust it to keep the product clean.
The straight and curl bars are of exceptional quality and radiate excellence. The black finish is stunning and the bars have knurling for perfect grip. The straight bar is also marked to make it easier to see where to place your right hand for various lifts.
The unique design lets you effortlessly and consistently fit your barbell between the weight plates. You won’t have to waste time attempting to get the bar just right. It effortlessly clicks into place, allowing you to turn the dial quickly. The barbell and the curl bar have textured surfaces, so you can use them with a firm grip.
The SelectTech 2080’s base supports one bar at a time and six rectangular weight plates made of molded plastic, each weighing five pounds. Each bar weighs around 20 pounds, and when you turn the dials and add more plates, the weight rises by increments of 10 pounds. You have 14 options across both bars, similar to a pair of fixed-weight barbells you could see in a gym.
The adjustable barbell set includes a 5-foot curl bar, a 5-foot barbell, and six weight plates that can be used to train with weight ranging from 20 to 80 pounds.
Set your preferred bar in your weight rack and adjust the bar’s built-in dial to raise your weight and increase your training load. With this technique, it's simple to keep your exercises as challenging as you like them to be. Compared to a conventional barbell setup, it doesn't take up much room either.
Who Is It For?
The Bowflex SelectTech 2080 Barbell is designed for those that need quick access to weights and want to keep those weights out of sight. When the second 40-pound plate upgrade is added, the SelectTech's total weight reaches 120 pounds. This curl bar may not get heavy enough for you if you're an experienced weightlifter.
However, a large portion of potential buyers would consider 80 or 120 pounds sufficient for gaining and mainting muscle.
Bowflex has a Media Stand that features a slanted slab, which you can use to set up a smartphone or any other device for workout inspiration or instructional videos. Furthermore, Bowflex provides 14 free videos that walk you through the basics of everyday barbell workouts, including bent rows, overhead presses, curls, deadlifts, and triceps extensions.
This set might be right for you if you're comfortable with adjustable equipment, are ready to put up with specific kinks, or like doing group courses using barbells. This set is not intended for serious powerlifting or complex Olympic-style exercises like the dynamic snatch and clean and jerk.
I think it depends on your physical goals. This curl bar will be a terrific addition to your workouts if your goal is to achieve a strong, lean, toned body rather than a lot of muscular mass.
Is the SelecTech 2080 hard to assemble?
I won’t lie, it did take me awhile to assemble the unit but then I never read the full instructions until I run into trouble! I also bought the barbell stand with the media rack, so assembly was longer.
You can set up your iPad or phone on the media rack, log into a workout video or just listen to some music while working out.
I was impressed by the care given to the products packing. Everything was packed in sturdy Styrofoam forms and each piece packed in its own plastic covering. Proper packing tells you about the quality of a product.
Using the ergonomic designed rack will help protect your lower back. It’s compact enough to still have a small footprint. (Dimensions: 59.3” L x 23.8” W x 32.1” H) With the crazy looking feet you can level the rack on any surface.
Questions and Answers on the Bowflex SelecTech 2080
1. Do I have to purchase the rack?
NO, there is a base unit on each end that sits on the floor and holds the weights in place. The bases have little legs on them, so it isn’t setting directly on the floor. The rack keeps the weights off the floor, so you don’t have to bend over all the time.
2. Due to the price of this product, is there a warranty available?
Both the barbell and the curl bar are fully covered under a warranty for 3 years.
3. What is the upgrade that you talked about?
The upgrade is an additional 40 lbs. of weights that can be added to the unit, for a total of 120 lbs. They’re easy to add on to the unit.
